Located 350 miles north of Miami and neighboring Fort Lauderdale, it is much closer to home for those driving from the northeast states. Thankfully (knock on wood), I've never had any issues departing a cruise ship. When disembarking Carnival Elation, we were routed through, what seemed like, all of Deck 7. The ship's current call ports are Nassau (New Providence), Freeport (Grand Bahama) and the private island Half Moon Cay, combined with Key West Florida on longer itineraries.

Before Florida became a state in 1845, cotton and timber were traded and shipped at the port.The Great Fire of 1901 destroyed the port facilities as well as most of the city. In 1907, the federal government helped pay for main channel in the river to be dredged to a depth of 24 feet (7.3 m). Army Corps of Engineers performed the harbor dredging in 1916, 1952, 1978 and 2003, when the channel was deepened to 30 feet (9.1 m), 34 feet (10 m), 38 feet (12 m) and 41 feet (12 m), respectively. Four-day cruise parking including tax and shuttle would cost just $33.25, a considerable saving compared with the official port cruise parking.
Not only was it clean with friendly staff, but it was also surrounded by shops and restaurants, which made it easy to stop for sunscreen en route to the terminal. It had a lovely deck that overlooked a small lake, and we enjoyed the complimentary breakfast, too. Note that Carnival doesn't offer any transportation from the airport, so you will be responsible for making your own arrangements. If you are driving from north of Jacksonville on I-195 South, you'll want to take Exit 362A off of I-95 to merge onto I-295 South.
Jacksonville is sometimes included as a call port in Panama Canal transition and World Cruise itineraries. The cheapest cruise parking is Jetway Parking at $4.99 per day for a standard vehicle plus a one-off fee of $10 to cover the shuttle. The cruise terminal is located on the final bend of the St Johns River before it flows out into the Atlantic Ocean. It is part of the commercial and military port and is considered a temporary cruise terminal.
Since we didn't have to collect any luggage, we joined the passport line and were out of the terminal in minutes! There was hardly any traffic leaving, so we were on the road in no time. I appreciated Jacksonville's parking situation compared to ports like Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale.
Unlike JAXPORT, however, you'll want to make your reservation ahead of time to secure your spot. Off-site options include Parking Mall, which is located directly across from the cruise terminal, as well as WallyPark, the only option that provides a covered option. NCL's Jacksonville homeporting operations are based on roundtrip voyages visiting The Bahamas and Eastern Caribbean island destinations. Jacksonville International Airport is just 15 minutes from the cruise port. More than a dozen major airlines and a network of regional carriers provide some 200 daily arrivals and departures at JIA. When considering one of the cruises out of Port Canaveral, plan extra time before and after your sailing to soak up all the fun that the area has to offer.

The agreement also included 3 additional 2-year renewal options and terminal improvements. The contract (May 2021, potentially through 2027) serves the 2019-upgraded Carnival Ecstasy to operate on year-round 4-5-day cruises. In March 2024 was signed the JAXPORT-Carnival Cruise Line agreement to extend CCL's cruise service from North Jacksonville Cruise Terminal through 2026, with an optional extension through 2030.
